KTM’s 2027 690 Rally Adds a Rally Tower and About 20 Liters of Fuel

KTM has put a rally tower on a street-legal single. On September 8, 2026, the company introduced the 2027 KTM 690 Rally, a version of its 690 Enduro R with a purpose-built rally tower, an integrated windshield, and two extra front fuel tanks that bring total capacity to roughly 20 liters (5.28 gallons). KTM says production starts in Austria in September and the bike reaches authorized dealers in October 2026. The KTM USA site already lists it.

KTM calls it the spiritual successor to the 640 Adventure. For riders, the practical question is simpler: what changes over a 690 Enduro R, and what’s still unknown.

The short version

  • What it is: a 690 Enduro R–based adventure bike with a rally tower and windshield.
  • Fuel: two additional front tanks (7 liters, or 1.84 gallons) plus the rear tank, for about 20 liters total.
  • Engine: LC4 single, 692.7 cc, listed by KTM at 79 PS (about 78 hp) and 73 Nm.
  • Timing: KTM’s global release says production in September and dealer availability in October 2026.
  • Price: the KTM USA page, as checked on October 5, shows no price.
2027 KTM 690 Rally: about 20 liters (5.28 gallons) across three tanks, 36.8 inch seat height, KTM's planned October dealer arrival, U.S. price not published
KTM’s Sept. 8, 2026 release and KTM USA model page, checked Oct. 5, 2026. Fuel is a capacity figure, not a tested range; October is KTM’s plan.

What the rally cockpit adds

KTM describes the rally tower as a purpose-built cockpit with an integrated windshield, aimed at wind protection at higher speeds and less fatigue on long off-road stages and fast liaison sections. It pairs with a 4.2-inch TFT display for ride modes, navigation and bike information.

Those are manufacturer statements. This is a launch announcement and model page, not a ride test, so claims like “reduced fatigue” are KTM’s positioning, not a finding.

Fuel: how the 20 liters work

The U.S. page says the two front tanks add 1.84 gallons (7 liters) and work with the rear tank for a total of 5.28 gallons (20 liters). A switch on the handlebar cube lets the rider choose between the front and rear tanks, and the reserve light follows the selected tank.

That’s a capacity figure, not a tested range. KTM doesn’t publish a range number in the launch release, and this article won’t make one up. Fuel burn depends on how hard and how fast you ride.

Hardware worth noting

According to KTM USA’s model page:

  • Suspension: WP XPLOR fork with separate compression and rebound adjustment, and a fully adjustable rear shock.
  • Wheels and tires: 21-inch front, 18-inch rear, Continental TKC 80.
  • Brakes: Brembo, 300 mm front disc and 240 mm rear.
  • Electronics: cornering ABS and cornering traction control using a 6D sensor, an optional Rally mode, Offroad ABS that can disable the rear wheel only, and an ABS-off button.
  • Clutch: Braktec hydraulic, with an optional Quickshifter+.
  • Seat height: 36.8 inches (935 mm). That’s tall, and worth sitting on before you commit.
  • Service interval: KTM lists 15,000 km oil changes.

When can you actually buy one?

KTM’s release says dealer availability starts in October 2026. That is a plan, not proof that a given dealer has one on the floor. Production in September and shipping to the U.S. take time, and allocation varies by dealer. The KTM USA page offers a quote request and a test-ride booking, which is a reasonable way to find out what your nearest dealer expects.

If you’re thinking of buying

  1. Request a quote and ask for the out-the-door price in writing, since the cited KTM pages do not show a U.S. price.
  2. Ask about the arrival date and your place in line.
  3. Sit on one. At 36.8 inches, the seat height matters more than the spec sheet.
  4. Think about use. KTM positions this for long off-road journeys. If most of your riding is pavement, a standard 690 Enduro R or a different adventure bike may be a better fit.
  5. Call your insurer before you buy. A new, specialized model can rate differently from the one it replaces, and the rally-specific parts may matter if you modify it.

What we don’t know yet

  • U.S. price, destination fees and dealer stock. These are not shown on the cited KTM pages.
  • Weight and real-world range. Not stated in the launch release.
  • How it rides. The cited KTM pages are not independent tests of its stability and comfort claims.
  • Whether every U.S. dealer gets one. Allocation isn’t described.

Bottom line

The 2027 KTM 690 Rally is a 690 Enduro R with a rally tower and about 20 liters of fuel, due at dealers in October. If long off-road stretches are your riding, it’s worth a test ride. If you want a price, you’ll have to ask a dealer.
