Honda Adds E-Clutch and a Round TFT to Europe’s 2027 CMX500 Rebel

Honda's Rebel 500 is getting the clutch that works itself, at least in Europe. On October 6, 2026, Honda Motor Europe announced the 2027 CMX500 Rebel with Honda E-Clutch, a new 3.5-inch circular TFT display and six-button left switchgear. The 471cc parallel twin and low 690 mm (27.2-inch) seat stay.

This is a European announcement. Honda hasn't announced a 2027 U.S. Rebel 500 or its equipment.

The short version

  • E-Clutch: handles the clutch for starts, stops and shifts; you still change gears with your foot, and the lever still works.
  • Display: a 3.5-inch circular TFT replaces the old 100 mm negative LCD.
  • Controls: left switchgear goes from four buttons to six.
  • Engine: 471cc twin, 34 kW (about 46 hp) at 8,500 rpm and 43.3 Nm at 6,000 rpm, per Honda's provisional specs.
  • Fit: 690 mm seat; 191 kg kerb weight (192 kg for the S Edition).
  • Colors: standard in Mat Fresco Brown or Mat Gunpowder Black Metallic; S Edition in Candy Rosy Red or Mat Gunpowder Black Metallic.
  • U.S.: no 2027 announcement yet.

How E-Clutch works on the Rebel

Honda's E-Clutch operates the clutch electronically when you pull away, stop and change gear. It isn't an automatic or DCT: you still pick the gear with the shift pedal.

Honda Europe's release adds some useful details:

  1. The lever always works. Use it any time; the system takes back over in under a second at higher engine speeds, or after about five seconds at low speeds.
  2. You can turn it off, but only when stopped and in neutral, using the left switchgear. The dash then shows an "M" for manual.
  3. Shift feel is adjustable: hard, medium or soft, set separately for upshifts and downshifts.
  4. A downshift prompt appears on the display when you're in too high a gear for your speed.

On a low, easy cruiser like the Rebel, that combination is aimed at newer riders and city commuters. Honda's E-Clutch project leader, Junya Ono, said it "adds peace of mind and comfort to town riding or the daily commute."

The new display and controls

The old round negative LCD gives way to a 3.5-inch circular TFT, keeping the round look while adding sharper graphics. The left-hand switchgear gains two buttons, going from four to six, to run the new display and E-Clutch settings.

S Edition

The S Edition adds a factory-fitted headlight cowl with smoked screen, retro fork covers and gaiters, a brown diamond-stitch seat and bronze wheels. Honda says each item is also available separately as an accessory.

Specs to treat as provisional

Honda labels its specifications provisional. Its release text and spec table also disagree on a few chassis details, including the brake-disc count and rear-suspension description, so we've left those out until Honda settles them.

What it means in the U.S.

In the U.S., Honda already sells E-Clutch versions of several models, including the Rebel 300, CB650R, CBR650R, CB750 Hornet and Transalp. A Rebel 500 E-Clutch would fit that pattern, but Honda hasn't announced 2027 U.S. details for the Rebel 500.

If you're shopping for a Rebel 500 now, the current U.S. model is what's on dealer floors. European equipment and colors don't automatically carry over.

What we don't know

  • U.S. 2027 Rebel 500 plans
  • European prices and arrival dates
  • Resolved chassis details from Honda's provisional spec sheet

Bottom line

Honda Europe's 2027 CMX500 Rebel adds E-Clutch, a 3.5-inch circular TFT and six-button switchgear to the 471cc cruiser, keeping its 690 mm seat. There's no U.S. announcement yet.
