Electric Motion’s 2027 Trials Bikes Get New Batteries and Chassis

Electric Motion has redesigned its electric trials bikes from the ground up. The French maker says its 2027 EPURE FACTOR-e and EPURE RACE share a new chassis, a new-generation battery and a new rider cockpit, and that the Escape R gets a reinforced chassis and a bigger 3.8 kWh battery.

Electric Motion (EM) posted two announcements on September 30, saying the range was unveiled at the 2026 Trial des Nations in Arteixo, Spain. Neither release gives the day of the presentation, so “September 30” here means the date EM published, not the date of the show. Here’s what’s new, how the two trials bikes differ, and what U.S. riders still need to find out.

The short version

  • New platform: EM calls the 2027 EPURE models “fully redesigned from the ground up,” with a new chassis, battery, cockpit and bodywork.
  • FACTOR-e: the flagship keeps a four-speed gearbox and a hydraulic diaphragm clutch.
  • RACE: the more accessible model uses a single-speed transmission and a hydraulic diaphragm clutch.
  • Battery: both models list a removable 2.0 kWh pack, and EM markets swaps in under 60 seconds.
  • Escape R: a new reinforced chassis and a 3.8 kWh battery.
  • Not confirmed: U.S. price, delivery dates and whether the battery-rental program is offered here.

What EM announced

According to EM’s range announcement, the 2027 EPURE models run on “an entirely new technical platform developed by EM’s engineering teams.” It lists the changes as a new chassis, new battery, new rider cockpit and new design, and it stresses a premium level of finish in materials and component integration.

The company positions the two models differently. The FACTOR-e 2027 is described as the brand’s technological and sporting flagship. The RACE 2027 is meant to make electric trials “more accessible and versatile.”

Everything in that paragraph is the manufacturer describing its own product. The sources checked here don’t include independent ride impressions, durability testing or weight checks on the 2027 bikes.

Why an electric trials bike might have a gearbox

Most people expect an electric bike to have one gear. EM’s 2027 lineup shows the exception and the rule side by side.

The FACTOR-e keeps a four-speed gearbox with a hydraulic diaphragm clutch, according to its product page. The page says the bike makes “1400 Nm in first gear.” EM specifies the gear but doesn’t explain the measurement method, so don’t compare it directly with a motor torque number from another bike.

The RACE goes the other way. EM’s RACE page lists a single-speed transmission and 740 Nm at the wheel. Because the two figures are measured in different gears and setups, don’t read one as beating the other.

The practical idea, without any claim about how they ride: a gearbox and clutch give a rider a way to change how torque reaches the wheel, and they’re familiar to riders coming from gas trials bikes. A single-speed drive is simpler, with fewer parts to learn and maintain. Which one suits you is a question for a test ride.

One caution on the RACE page. Several paragraphs refer to the model as the FACTOR-e. Its RACE-specific text describes a single-speed drive and a hydraulic diaphragm clutch, and the equipment table lists a three-disc clutch; a clutch and single-speed transmission can coexist. The RACE numbers below come from its specification table and transmission line. The mixed model names are a reason to ask EM or a dealer to confirm the exact equipment in writing before you buy.

Electric Motion 2027 EPURE: FACTOR-e has a four-speed gearbox, RACE a single-speed drive, both list a removable 2.0 kWh battery; U.S. price and delivery are unconfirmed

The numbers EM lists

For the FACTOR-e, EM’s page gives these specifications:

  1. Battery: removable, 2.0 kWh, 64.8 V, about 11 kg.
  2. Charging: a 12 A charger, 0 to 100% in 2 hours 55 minutes and 20 to 80% in 1 hour 33 minutes.
  3. Weight: 73 kg for the bike.
  4. Power: 5 kW nominal and 18 kW peak.
  5. Top speed: 85 km/h (about 53 mph).
  6. Seat height: 687 mm (about 27 inches).

The RACE page lists a 72 kg bike, 80 km/h top speed (about 50 mph), a 5.31 kW nominal figure and 18 kW peak, a 2.0 kWh, 64.8 V battery, the same “up to 3.5 hours” runtime claim, and a Tech Racing aluminum fork with a new Reiger rear shock. Its standard 12 A charger is listed at 2 hours 55 minutes; an 18 A charger with a listed 1 hour 55 minute time is optional.

These are manufacturer specifications. EM hasn’t said how the power figures were measured, and nominal power on an electric bike depends heavily on the test method.

Battery swaps and “up to 3.5 hours”

The removable battery is the feature most likely to matter to trials riders. EM says a swap takes under 60 seconds and offers an optional second battery for a combined 4.0 kWh. It also lists a battery rental program, which it describes as maximum range whenever you need it without the cost of owning a second pack year-round.

EM also lists runtime of “up to 3.5 hours.” That is a manufacturer claim about time, not a range in miles, and trials riding varies too much for it to be translated. It isn’t an independent test, and it doesn’t compare the 2027 bike with earlier EPURE models. Ask how the figure was produced and for what riding.

Cockpit and riding modes

The FACTOR-e lists a TFT display with a Trial Mode and three power maps. Its product page also lists four adjustment positions for the triple clamps. It doesn’t give bar-height or footpeg-position dimensions, so check the bike in person if fit matters to you.

The Escape R

The Escape R isn’t a trials bike, but it’s part of the same announcement. EM says it gets a new reinforced chassis “designed to withstand the demands of increasingly challenging riding” and a new 3.8 kWh battery for “even greater range.” The announcement doesn’t give a voltage, weight, charging time or range figure for the Escape R, so the gain over the previous battery can’t be calculated from the release.

What’s still unknown for U.S. riders

This is the section to read before you spend anything.

  • Price: EM hasn’t published a U.S. price for the 2027 models in the sources checked. Don’t assume a European price converts directly.
  • Delivery: there’s no U.S. delivery or availability date for the 2027 bikes.
  • Battery rental: EM markets the program globally. Whether and where it runs in the U.S. isn’t stated.
  • Street use: EM’s pages carry “road legal” marketing for some markets. That isn’t proof a particular bike is legal, registrable or insurable on U.S. roads. These are competition and off-road trials bikes for U.S. readers until a local dealer shows you otherwise in writing.

Questions to ask before you order

If you’re considering a 2027 EPURE or Escape R, put these to EM’s U.S. dealer or distributor:

  1. Which model year and which battery will my bike ship with, and when?
  2. What is the out-the-door price, including shipping and any battery options?
  3. Is battery rental available in my area, and what does it cost?
  4. Who services the battery and gearbox, and how long do parts take?
  5. Is the bike approved for any street or OHV use where I ride? Get it in writing.
  6. What does my insurer want to know? Off-road machines are often covered under different rules from street bikes, so ask your agent before you buy.

What this means

It’s a full platform change for one of the few brands focused on electric trials bikes, and the headline facts are concrete: two models, two different transmission choices, a removable battery, and a bigger battery for the Escape R. The sources checked here describe EM’s announced hardware, rather than independent testing of how the bikes ride.

For now the useful facts are EM’s hardware list and the open U.S. questions above. Once riders get time on the 2027 bikes, the gearbox-versus-single-speed question should get a real answer.
