GASGAS and Husqvarna Recall 21,040 Off-Road Bikes Over Rear Brake Calipers That Can Crack

If you ride a GASGAS or Husqvarna off-road bike from the 2021 to 2024 model years, check your VIN before your next ride. KTM North America, which imports both brands, is recalling about 21,040 of them in the U.S. because the rear brake caliper can crack or break.

This recall isn’t new. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) posted it on August 20, 2026. But a recall only helps if owners hear about it, and with fall riding season underway, plenty of these bikes are still out on the trails with the original caliper.

The fix is free. Until it’s done, the instruction is blunt: stop riding the bike.

Why this recall came from CPSC, not NHTSA

Most motorcycle recalls come through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), which covers street-legal vehicles. These are off-road bikes, so the recall runs through the CPSC, the agency that handles consumer products like dirt bikes and ATVs. The recall number is 26-710.

That matters for how you look it up. If you search NHTSA’s recall database for your bike, you may not find this one. Use CPSC’s notice or the brand recall checkers instead.

Which models are covered

CPSC’s table lists these models. The year matters: a 2022 FE 350 is on the list, for example, but that doesn’t mean every FE 350 is.

Even if your model and year show up here, run the VIN. The brand checker is the final word on whether your specific bike is included.

CPSC says the bikes were sold at authorized dealers nationwide from September 2020 through June 2023, for roughly $7,300 to $13,000.

How to check your bike

1. Find the VIN. CPSC says it’s on the right side of the steering head, the frame section the fork pivots on. It’s the same spot on every model in the recall.
2. Run it through the checker for your brand. Husqvarna owners can use Husqvarna’s U.S. recall check. GASGAS owners can use GASGAS’s U.S. recall check. Both ask for the full 17-digit VIN.
3. If it’s included, park it and call a dealer. Contact an authorized GASGAS or Husqvarna dealer to schedule the free repair. KTM North America also takes calls at 888-985-6090, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday.

Why “stop riding” isn’t overkill

On a dirt bike, the rear brake does real work. It’s what you drag down a steep, loose descent, what you use to settle the bike before a tight turn, and what gets you slowed down on terrain where grabbing a fistful of front brake would wash out the front end.

A caliper that cracks mid-ride can mean the rear brake fades or quits exactly when the trail gets steep. CPSC calls it a crash hazard that can cause serious injury or death. The repair is free, so waiting a week or two for a dealer appointment is a small price.

If you have a race or ride coming up, call the dealer now rather than the week before, so there’s time to get the work scheduled.

Bought one used? Selling one?

A lot of these bikes have changed hands since 2020, and recall notices go to the original owner on file. If you bought yours from a private seller, there’s a real chance you never got a letter.

That’s another reason to run the VIN yourself, even if you’re not sure the bike was ever registered with the brand.

If you’re selling, check first. CPSC’s notice points out that federal law prohibits selling a product that’s under a recall like this one. Getting the free repair done before you list the bike protects the buyer, and it’s a simple thing to show on a receipt.

If you’re shopping for a used 2021–2024 GASGAS or Husqvarna, ask the seller for proof the recall work was completed, or run the VIN before you hand over cash.

Does insurance come into it?

For the fix itself, no. The repair is free at the dealer, and you don’t need an insurance claim to get it.

Where insurance could matter is if a bike is damaged before the repair is done. If you’re in that situation, tell your insurer and the dealer about the recall, and keep records of when you learned about it and when you booked the repair. How a claim would be handled depends on your policy and the facts, so ask your insurer directly rather than assuming.

Off-road bikes are also a gap in some riders’ coverage. A homeowners or renters policy may cover an off-road bike only in limited ways, or not at all, depending on the policy. If you’re not sure how your GASGAS or Husqvarna is insured, this is a good time to check.

What we don’t know yet

CPSC’s notice doesn’t describe the repair itself, such as whether the caliper is replaced or modified, or how long the job takes. Ask the dealer when you book.

The notice also says the bikes were sold through June 2023 while listing several 2024 models. The VIN checkers are the reliable way to settle whether your bike is covered, regardless of when you bought it.
