Hedon Makes 16 Numbered Helmets for Royal Enfield’s 125th Year

London helmet maker Hedon is marking Royal Enfield's 125th year with a collection small enough to count on two hands and then some: 16 helmets in total. According to Hedon's product listing, there are eight open-face Hedonists and eight full-face Heroine Racer 2.0s, each one numbered, made to order and finished by hand in Hedon's London workshop.

The design muse is the Royal Enfield Bullet 650. No motorcycle comes with the helmet. This is a collector's piece you can also ride in, and Hedon's U.S. listing lets you choose a DOT-labeled version.

Key points:

  • How many: 16 worldwide, eight of each model, individually numbered.
  • How it's sold: pre-order, made to order. Hedon hasn't published a delivery date.
  • U.S. riders: the Hedonist listing offers DOT or ECE 22.06 in every size, XS to XXL. Pick DOT for U.S. road use.
  • Price: Hedon's displayed prices didn't match across its pages when checked, so confirm at checkout.

What's in the Hedonist

Hedon has published full details for the open-face Hedonist version. Per the listing:

  • Shell: composite of fiberglass and carbon fiber, in creme and red automotive paint over a chrome patina base, gloss finish
  • Inside: Hedon's "Hed Armour" lining with 360-degree cushion padding, Merlin anti-bacterial fabric, black leather lining
  • Trim: white leather, an anodized brass Hedon plate and stainless-steel hardware
  • Strap: stainless-steel double-D buckle
  • Vents: a three-channel ventilation system
  • Visors: seven colored visors, sold separately
  • Weight: 850 g (±50 g) for XS and S, rising to 1,000 g (±50 g) for XXL, roughly 1.9 to 2.2 pounds

Those are Hedon's specifications. We haven't seen independent impact or comfort testing for this edition, and Hedon doesn't claim the anniversary paint and leather change the protection.

The full-face Heroine Racer 2.0 is the other half of the collection. Hedon's anniversary description names it, but we couldn't load a separate U.S. listing with its specifications, so check the build details before you order that one.

Hedon x Royal Enfield 125: 16 helmets in total, eight Hedonist and eight Heroine Racer 2.0; choose a DOT or ECE 22.06 label per helmet at order; made to order and numbered in London with a 14-day cancellation window; delivery date and stock not published

DOT or ECE: pick the right label

Hedon's listing lets you choose the certification for each size. It describes ECE 22.06 as road legal in Europe and the UK and DOT as road legal in the United States.

A few things to know before you click:

  1. Choose DOT for U.S. roads. In states with helmet laws, the helmet needs to meet the federal standard, FMVSS No. 218, which a DOT label indicates.
  2. DOT is self-certified. The manufacturer certifies that the helmet meets FMVSS No. 218. NHTSA doesn't approve helmets in advance; it can test them afterward.
  3. One helmet, one label. Choosing a certification means you get that version. Don't assume an ECE-labeled helmet also carries DOT, or the other way round.

Check the DOT certification label on the outside back of the helmet when it arrives.

Ordering from the U.S.

Hedon's terms on the listing say U.S. orders over $499 ship free and that Hedon covers import duties and taxes for your region. The helmet is made to order in London, and the listing doesn't give a lead time.

Read the return terms before you commit. Hedon says made-to-order helmets can be cancelled within 14 days for a full refund. After that, or once the helmet arrives, a return gets a 50% refund. Hedon also sells optional sizing insurance on made-to-order helmets that allows one size exchange.

Fit is the real risk with an online-only, custom-built helmet. Measure your head where Hedon's guide says, just above the eyebrows, and compare it with the size chart: XS is 52 to 53 cm, XXL is 61 to 62 cm. If you're between sizes, ask Hedon's team before you order.

Insuring a collector's helmet

A numbered, hand-finished helmet is worth more than most riding gear. Many motorcycle policies cover helmets and riding apparel only up to a set limit, and some don't cover gear at all unless it's damaged in a covered crash. If you'd want this one replaced after a crash or a theft, ask your insurer what your policy's gear limit is.

Hedon also offers a crash replacement program at 50% off the recommended retail price, but it has to be bought with the helmet. It can't be added later.

What we still don't know

  • The exact announcement date and delivery timing.
  • A confirmed price that matches across Hedon's pages.
  • How many of the 16 are still available.
  • Heroine Racer 2.0 specifications for the anniversary edition.
