LS2 Rebellion Helmet Recall: Check XL and XXL Helmets Made 2024-25

A helmet is the one piece of gear that has to work the first time. NHTSA equipment recall 26E001, received on January 5, 2026, says certain LS2 Rebellion helmets in sizes XL and XXL may lack proper impact protection. The importer, Allwin Powersports Corp. (APC), is recalling 3,714 potentially affected helmets, and NHTSA says they fail to meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 218, the U.S. motorcycle-helmet standard.

This is a size-and-date-code problem, not a recall of every LS2. If you own a Rebellion, the label inside the helmet is how you find out.

The short version

  • Who: certain LS2 Rebellion helmets, sizes XL and XXL, manufactured between June 1, 2024 and July 30, 2025.
  • How many: 3,714 potentially affected, per NHTSA.
  • The problem: the helmets may lack proper impact protection and don’t comply with FMVSS 218.
  • The risk: a helmet that doesn’t provide adequate protection increases the risk of injury in a crash.
  • The fix: APC will replace the helmet, free of charge.
  • Contact: APC customer service at (630) 236-2366 or (888) 968-9888.

Is your Rebellion in the recall?

Three details have to line up: the model (Rebellion), the size (XL or XXL), and a manufacture date from June 1, 2024 through July 30, 2025. NHTSA’s database lists the model year as “9999”; use the helmet’s manufacture date when checking this recall.

NHTSA equipment recall 26E001 (received Jan. 5, 2026), checked Oct. 5, 2026. NHTSA lists model year as 9999; identify the helmet by its manufacture date.

FMVSS 218 section S5.6.1 requires a permanent, legible label showing the month and year of manufacture, readable without removing padding or any other permanent part. Compare that date with the recall window; a July 2025 month-only label may not distinguish July 30 from July 31, so ask APC to confirm a borderline date. If the tag is missing or unreadable, call APC with the model, size, and where you bought it rather than guessing.

What the remedy is, and isn’t

NHTSA’s text says APC “will replace the helmet, free of charge.” The record doesn’t say which helmet you’ll receive, whether a different model could be substituted, or how the exchange works. It also doesn’t say how long it takes or whether you need to send the old one back. Ask when you call.

Importantly, the record doesn’t say what specific test the helmets failed or what the shortfall was. “Lack proper impact protection” is the summary language, and this article doesn’t add detail NHTSA didn’t provide.

Should you keep wearing it?

The record includes no stop-use instruction, and unlike a bike recall there’s no “park it” flag to read. But the consequence is stated plainly: inadequate protection in a crash. If your helmet is in the recall window, the cautious move is to contact APC right away and ask what they advise for use until you have a replacement. That is a reasonable question to put to the company, and the recall notice itself doesn’t answer it.

How to act

  1. Check the size and tag. XL or XXL, Rebellion, manufactured June 1, 2024 to July 30, 2025.
  2. Photograph the label showing model, size and date, along with your purchase receipt if you have it.
  3. Call APC at (630) 236-2366 or (888) 968-9888 and cite NHTSA recall 26E001.
  4. Ask about interim use and how the replacement is sent.
  5. Keep records of the call and the exchange.

If you bought the helmet used, the original owner’s notice may never have reached you. Equipment recalls follow the product, so you can still call.

If you’re buying or selling a Rebellion

Used helmets are already a gamble, since you can’t see crash history. For a Rebellion in XL or XXL, check the date tag against the window. A helmet inside it is a recalled helmet. If you’re selling one, replace it through APC rather than passing a recalled helmet along.

What the record doesn’t say

  • Whether your specific helmet is affected. “Certain” helmets within the stated window and sizes.
  • How many have been replaced. NHTSA gives the potential population only.
  • Crash or injury reports. None are given.
  • Owner-letter dates. The remedy text gives no mailing date.
  • Insurance. The recall notice says nothing about coverage. If you want to know how a helmet-related injury claim would be handled, ask your insurer or agent.

Bottom line

If you wear an XL or XXL LS2 Rebellion made between June 2024 and July 2025, read the label and call APC. The replacement is free, and a helmet is not the place to wait and see.
