Cardo’s Noise-Canceling SC EDGE ANC Works Only in Schuberth’s C5 ANC Helmet

If you've been eyeing Cardo's noise-canceling intercom, know this first: it only works in one helmet. The SC EDGE ANC, announced by Cardo on June 17, 2026, was developed with Schuberth specifically for the C5 ANC helmet. Cardo's own FAQ says it isn't a standalone unit and can't be retrofitted to other helmets.

The short version

  • What it is: a Cardo intercom with active noise cancellation (ANC), built into Schuberth's C5 ANC modular helmet.
  • Fit: C5 ANC only. Not a clip-on, not a retrofit.
  • Audio: 53 mm Cardo Sound Labs speakers, larger than the 40 mm JBL units in the standard PACKTALK EDGE.
  • Intercom: second-generation DMC mesh, up to 31 riders, Bluetooth 5.2, voice control and over-the-air updates.
  • Range: up to 1.6 km (about 1 mile) unit to unit and 8 km across a mesh group, per Cardo.
  • Missing: Crash Detection, which Cardo reserves for the PACKTALK PRO.
Cardo SC EDGE ANC: Schuberth C5 ANC only, integrated and not a retrofit or clip-on; 53 mm speakers and DMC Gen 2 mesh for 31 riders with Bluetooth 5.2; no Crash Detection, which Cardo puts on the PACKTALK PRO; range up to 1.6 km unit to unit per Cardo

What active noise cancellation does here

ANC uses microphones and the speakers to cancel steady background sound. Cardo says the SC EDGE ANC is tuned to cut wind and engine noise, the constant drone that builds up on the highway, while letting through sounds you need, like traffic and sirens.

Cardo's post argues that steady background noise contributes to fatigue on long rides. That's Cardo's case for the product, not a measured result for this helmet.

What ANC isn't: hearing protection you can count on in every condition. Wind noise at highway speed is loud, and if you currently wear earplugs, keep doing so until you've talked to an audiologist or seen independent test data for this setup.

Why it's helmet-specific

Cardo and Schuberth tuned the system to the C5 ANC's acoustic profile: its shape, padding and where noise gets in. That's why the unit is integrated rather than clipped on, and why Cardo says it won't work as a retrofit in another helmet, including a standard C5.

If you already own a C5 or another helmet, this product isn't an upgrade path. You'd be buying the C5 ANC helmet.

Intercom features

The SC EDGE ANC shares most of its intercom side with Cardo's current mesh units:

  • DMC Gen 2 mesh for up to 31 riders in one group
  • Bluetooth 5.2 for phones and for connecting to other brands' intercoms
  • "Hey Cardo" voice commands for calls, intercom and music
  • Over-the-air updates through the Cardo Connect app

Cross-brand connections to other intercoms run over standard Bluetooth. That works, but it doesn't get the self-healing mesh behavior of a Cardo-to-Cardo DMC group.

Range figures are Cardo's best-case numbers. Hills, buildings and traffic shorten them.

No Crash Detection

Cardo's FAQ is direct: neither the SC EDGE ANC nor the standard PACKTALK EDGE has Crash Detection. That feature is on the PACKTALK PRO. If automatic crash alerts matter to you, this isn't the unit that provides them.

What we don't know

  • U.S. price and availability of the C5 ANC with SC EDGE ANC
  • Independent noise measurements inside the helmet
  • Helmet certification details for the ANC version in the U.S. market

Bottom line

Cardo's SC EDGE ANC brings active noise cancellation, 53 mm speakers and 31-rider mesh to an intercom built only for Schuberth's C5 ANC helmet. It can't be retrofitted, and it doesn't include Crash Detection.
